Independent assessment services provider, Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA), has accredited Abu Dhabi Ports with the ISO 28000:2007 certificate of Security Management System for Supply Chain.

Abu Dhabi Ports is the master developer, operator, and manager of commercial and community ports within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, in addition to Fujairah Terminals at the Port of Fujairah, and the Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad).

According to Abu Dhabi Ports, a team of assessors from LRQA conducted an independent audit of the security management system that has been put in place at Khalifa Port, Zayed Port, Mussafah Port, and Abu Dhabi Ports Headquarters.

The security management system evaluates risks and challenges related to different aspects of security and threats, including piracy, terrorism and theft.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, chief executive officer of Abu Dhabi Ports, commented: “Abu Dhabi Ports places strong emphasis on operational excellence in line with Abu Dhabi Government’s vision towards sustained excellence across all its business units and services offerings.

“This ISO 28000 accreditation is an additional step […] towards maintaining our position as a trusted and reliable business enabler, which only further raises trust and confidence of our customers and stakeholders in our organisation.”

ISO 28000:2007 identifies the different requirements for a security management system, including aspects that are critical to the security assurance of the supply chain.
